Be
a Clown by Mark Stolzenberg
If
you love to clown around, it's time to get serious about it…serious fun
that is. Being a clown means more than merely putting on silly makeup
and jumping around: it's a wonderful form of self-expression that brings
joy to yourself and to others. Take a look at the world's best jesters
and expand your understanding of comedy. Here are the (literal) tricks
of the trade: ideas for using cartoon-like imagery, choosing a distinctive
costume, finding a comic rhythm, and mastering physical skills that will
make people roll in the aisles. Project the right raucous attitude, work
in duets, and develop an irresistibly humorous "clown walk." Even say
hello in a way that gets your audience giggling. Actual routines unfold
in a series of photos and descriptions, with tips on selling them. From
the "levitation gag" to "wire walking," to developing your own act, it's
the perfect clown school. *8 X 10 *160 pages all in color

Paths
To Enchantment by Malcolm Yaffe
Most
children's magicians depend on props to entertain their audiences. Readers
of books on the subject of children's magic expect to find detailed accounts
of tricks and routines. While Paths to Enchantment has plenty of these,
its central purpose is to set out in the form of a blueprint a method
to enable readers to improve and devise their own routines. The majority
of children's entertainers are so obsessed with obtaining and trying out
the latest innovation that they seldom search within themselves and discover
what new ideas they can apply to props they already possess. One block
to such personal invention is the lack of a systematic structure the performer
can apply to the task, a foundation on which to develop entertaining ideas
from the subconscious. Paths to Enchantment is believed to be the first
cohesive attempt to analyze those aspects of a successful performance
that give pleasure to children. Malcolm Yaffe, a veteran of children's
magic with more than thirty years' experience in the field, has identified
and defined eleven essential techniques on which to build fresh and successful
presentations for the tricks you already own— THEY SEE, YOU DON'T THE
FRUSTRATED WIZARD FANTASIZING ANIMATION BUSINESS, PARTICIPATION, INVOLVEMENT
THE MISCHIEF-MAKER THE SUCCESS FACTOR ADD-ONS AND COMPATIBILITY STORYTELLING
CHAOS EMOTIONAL APPEALS After explaining each technique, he illustrates
how it is applied, using dozens of examples drawn from his professional
repertoire, among which are several prize-winning routines and presentations.
Included are Yaffe's imaginative redressings of such classics as— FORGETFUL
FREDDIE FANTASTIC FRAME THE MULTIPLYING WANDS ROPE TO SILK THE CHAIR SUSPENSION
THE MUTILATED SUNSHADE THE EGG BAG THE GUNG HO PRODUCTION BOX THE LIGHT
AND HEAVY GLASS THE GIANT AND THE DWARF CRAZY COMPASS THE LINKING RINGS
and many more. Also revealed are completely original utility props and
tricks, such as— THE SKELETON HAND IN WAND FLY ON LAPEL MARVIN THE WATCH-REPAIRING
MOUSE THE MAGIC CARD SHOP THE SKULL FROM BUCKET THE MULTIPLYNG WAND BOX
Clear and engaging in its unique approach, Paths to Enchantment maps out
the routes necessary to arrive at a higher level of success and professionalism
for those who entertain children or who wish to do so. Its content breaks
exciting new ground by giving children's magicians and clowns a step-by-step
system designed to help them discover their own creative talents and increase
the intensity of entertainment in their performances. "This book is incredible....
You have not read another kid-show book like this one....be sure to get
yourself a copy." —David Kaye Pages 255 - Hardbound w/ Dust Jacket

book with what I don't know about doing magic for children. Ad it happens,
David Kaye, master of magic for the miniature set, has done just that
and far more. He has written a terrific book full of eye-opening ideas
about 'how to entertain children with magic and comedy,' as the book's
subtitle plainly labels it. Quite possibly the smartest book ever that
form -- be it hobbyist, part-timer, or full-time professional. But having
read it I can assure you that there is no magician on the planet, no matter
your specialty, who will not derive immeasurable if unexpected benefit
from reading this book." - Jamy Ian Swiss, Genii, The Conjurors' Magazine
"David Kaye is the real deal. He has been a professional children's entertainer
for more than 18 years, and during that time he has performed more than
7,000 shows. David has now assembled his thoughts on kid's show magic
in a marvelous book titled Seriously Silly. This book may well become
the definitive resource on this type of magic. Seriously Silly is a tremendously
valuable book, containing insights that only come from years of experience.
For the kid's show performer, it is indispensable. ...Highly recommended.
- Michael Close, MAGIC Magazine "There is no book regarding the performance
of magic for adults that is the equal of David Kaye's Seriously Silly.
The psychological insight the author has regarding his young audience
is staggering. Seriously silly offers lessons in performance and psychology
that every performer, whether working for children or adults, can use
to greatly enhance their shows. I don't publish many books these days,
but I had no choice here: Seriously Silly is the best book ever written
on how to perform magic effectively." - Richard Kaufman

Acrobatic Fish by Viking
This
is one of the best and funniest versions of Ken Allen's Monkey Bar ever
invented. You begin with one large fish hanging from a cord. You proceed
to make the fish jump from one end of the rod to the other. Finally, the
obvious solution occurs to your audience, but you're one step ahead of
them, and the fish magically jumps to the middle cord. As a surprise ending,
you take your bow, and when you look again at the stick there are now
THREE FISH hanging, one from each cord! This is so well made, you won't
believe the unit is self-contained. The method is so simple, you'll be
performing this minutes after you receive it. Finest quality, complete
with routine. Each fish measures 9" long, made of brillient gold lame;
the stick is just 1" in diameter.

Codology
from Kovari Magic
The
classic Monkey Bar brought up to date by Kovari Magic! The children in
your audience will scream when the following sequence transpires: Show
a bar from which hands three lengths of rope. On the end of one rope is
a gilttering, golden fish. The fish is one one of the end pieces of rope.
After considerable by-play in which the magician tells the children that
the fish has jumped from one end of the bar to the next (they can clearly
see that he's simply turning the bar end for end behind his back, and
they tell him so, LOUDLY), the fish jumps to the CENTER rope. For a spectacular
finish, the magician causes two more fish to appear on the other ropes!
Super-high quality construction throughout makes Codology a dream to use.
The fish are hand made from glittering fabric in three colors and the
bar itself (which does most of the dirty work for you) is made from heavy-duty
plastic.

Monkey Bar - Nu-Way
Completely
Different Method - Suitable for Stage! Show a large wooden baton with
three cords running through it. At the end of each cord is a ball, two
of which are of the same color (say red), and one a different color (say
yellow). Now show the cord run freely through the holes, and the balls
are securely tied on the cords. Explain you'll make the ball jump from
one cord to the other. You pass the baton behind your back, and the odd
colored ball jumps from one end (say left) to the other (right). The audience
is not impressed, - they know you are just turning the baton around behind
your back. You appear offended at not be believed, and offer to prove
conclusively that the balls do jump from one cord to the other. The baton
is passed behind the back once again, and when brought to the front, the
odd colored ball is now tied on the middle rope, between the two similar
colored ones. Thick cords, and large balls, making it very visible even
on the larger stage. Easily adapt the baton for use in any of the other
presentations!

Appearing 10ft Straw Trick
**
A Great Opener ** EFFECT: The magician walks hurriedly onto stage carrying
a McDonald’s bag looking worried and stressed. As he looks at his watch,
he announces, “Oh, I was so late I didn’t even get a chance to have dinner...
well, at least, I got to stop at McDonald’s.” He sets the bag on the table
and looks in... and pulls out a hamburger... “one hamburger!”, he explains.
He looks in again and becomes upset when he pulls out a coke, “Would you
look at that! They gave me a small coke and I paid for a large one!” (Waits
for audience response ... A-A-W-W-W!) He then looks into the bag one last
time and shouts with much exuberance, “Well, at least they gave me a large
