A Date With Destiny by Kenton Knepper

Add-A-Pad by Basil Horwitz
An amazing utility prop which enables the performer to force any number. Perfect for forcing a phone number or special date. This new add-a-number pad is based on the principle of the Basil Horwitz Wallet and locks firmly using rare earth magnets. The instructions supplied include details of four stunning routines that you can perform with the Howitz Add-a-Number pad including a brilliant effect where a members of the audience are asked to write numbers on the pad and when written a fourth spectator is given the wallet and asked to add up all the numbers. The total arrived at, which could be 051206, is written up on a large white pad and shown to the audience who are asked to call out today's date. It just so happens to be the 5th of December 2006 and that is just what the sum total indicates 051206 (of course you modify the total for each performance so that it reflects the date of the actual performance. Another great routine starts when you hand a member of the audience a sealed paper bag with a big question mark on it. The performer asks for someone in the audience with a mobile phone to phone the actual number now written on the large sheet of paper. He or she phones the number and a mobile phone can be heard ringing in the audience. It is the mobile phone which was in the sealed paper bag and when answered the two spectator find that they are speaking to each other. The Horwitz Add-a-Number Pad can be used without the physical intervention of the performer. The pad is passed from one spectator to the next and each is asked to write numbers in sum-form, and until the wallet is actually closed nothing happens. Once the wallet is closed the real numbers and the sum are exchanged for the fake sum which will add up to the number to be forced by the magician. The last but one spectator is asked to CLOSE the pad and then to throw it on to someone else in the audience. The very act of closing the wallet causes the magnets to lock and the next time the wallet is opened the sum facing the spectator is the forced sum and the real sum is tightly locked away. Afflicted by Marc Spelmann
A spectator is asked to examine ten figure wound cards, confirming each is different with wounds in different places, the cards are mixed and one selected at random. The remaining cards are hidden from the performers view. The spectator is asked to visualize the performer with the wounds on their chosen card. A pay envelope and a needle are handed to a second spectator who is asked to first confirm there is something inside the envelope and then to pierce a single random hole through the item inside. Turning to the first spectator the performer begins to feel the wounds and indicates three separate places on their body to the astonishment of the spectator who confirms that the areas of the body mentioned are exactly the same as they were thinking of. The performer turns to the second spectator and removes a folded piece of paper from the envelope which proves to be a picture of a figure.. And the Number Is?
The magician has misplaced the phone number of his old highschool girlfriend. He asks a spectator to help him locate her number by using their psychic abilities. He gives them a phone directory of the town she lives in. The spectator is FREE to choose ANY page and stop on ANY phone number and then write it down. The magician then shows the spectator a photo of his old girlfriend that has been sitting on his stand in a manila envelope the whole time. As he is about to lay the photo back down he notices a slip of folded paper stuck to the back of the photo. Why it's the phone number of his girlfriend that he was looking for, and guess what? It MATCHES the number the spectator selected from the phone directory. But that's not all. Antoninus Pius's Box
The legend tells that in the year 141 A.D. Antoninus Pius, The Roman Empire Emperor, had to go on a journey due to problems with the borders, while his beloved had to remain in the city. It is said that during that time, the Emperor communicated with his beloved in a very special and unique way: both had decided that, on a certain time of the day, she would write a message in the sand and Antoninus would randomly take some stones with different words engraved on them. He would turn the stones around and the message that appeared was the same as the one written on the sand (by his beloved). The following day Antoninus was the one who would write on the sand, and his beloved would choose the stones. In that way, at the end of that long journey, they were able to feel closer than ever before. After telling the legend, the magician shows his audience six engraved wooden pieces which he will lay face down on a table. He also shows them a beautiful box with sand inside of it. The magician explains that, in the way of Antoninus, he has drawn a picture on the sand inside the box, which is now hermetically sealed, and he asks someone from the audience to hold the box in their hands and choose one of the six wooden pieces. When the box is opened, the picture on the sand is the same as the one on the wooden piece. The magician explains that this has been only one part of the experience and that now the participant (as Antoninus' beloved) will draw something on the sand and the magician (as the Emperor) will choose a piece and once again the experience will be successful. EFFECT: You talk about the power of flames and how images can sometimes materialize from the ashes, how the images can become real, very strong and powerful. Is it our minds? Effect "The bumper sticker," begins the performer as he shows a selection of them - all of which are cut in half, "is a source of 5-Star wisdom often using four-letter words. They're a short form expression of attitude, philosophy, and humor. You can find them at truck stops, novelty shops, and bargain swaps." He shows the halves of two different bumper stickers saying, "If you cut them in half and mismatch them, the results can be interesting." (The audience will laugh at a couple of the combinations, we designed them for that purpose.) Placing a business envelope in full view, he continues, "There are halves of two different bumper suckers in here (they can be seen through the address window) that usually combine with others to get an amusing reaction." Barking Dog

You offer a simple experiment. You introduce 4 ungimmicked colored cards: Red, Blue, Green, and Yellow. Of course the correct color card is in it, but wait; there is a slip of paper in it and it reads: "THE YELLOW ENVELOPE WILL BE THE ONE YOU DISCARD!" The magician can then show the other envelopes are empty, in fact all the envelopes can be examined. Approaching the audience, you point with the cutlass to one of them and say, "Aye, matey, you've been dragooned as part of my crew, so you get a share of the loot - call it a signing bonus. Open the chest, take the bauble of your choice, put it in a bag and pull the strings to close it. Hide what you've picked from the rest of these lubbers - they don't look very trustworthy. Once you're done, stand to one side while the next swabbie selects and bags a treasure." After the fifth person from the audience closes the chest and everyone has a bag in hand, you continue, "My stout crew may not be superior fighters, navigators, or thieves, but they're the best liars on the planet. So to ship out with me, you'll have to tell believable bullsh.., er, perfect prevarications Otherwise, you'll stay ashore, empty-handed. For now, pass your swag bags to the bos'uns mate here (pointing to the person nearest the chest). He'll hide them behind the chest so nobody knows which bag belongs to which shipmate." When that's accomplished and without so much as looking at the five bags, you request, "Hand one of those bags over to me, bos'un. Take yer pick." You remove the item from within the bag, hold it in front of each of the five, instructing, "Each of you say, nice and loud - I didn't take that, Cap'n - and not a word more. If the one who took it can hoodwink me, you'll get extra loot and a promotion to first mate." After testing all five, you say, "A good liar doesn't give himself away with shifty eyes ...", pointing with the cutlass to one of them, "... like you did." The person agrees. "Matey, shove off. Yer too honest for me. And here's a special tasty doubloon (a chocolate coin, wrapped in gold foil) for your trouble." You repeat with three more persons - using variations on the same theme - identifying which among them took each succeeding item. Hooking the last remaining bag from behind the chest on the end of the cutlass (obviously never touching the bag) you hold it in front of the your final participant and observe, "There's no point in asking for a lie - we know you chose this bit o' swag. But no one has a clue what it is you picked - ya can't see through the bag (holding it at his eye level on the tip of the cutlass to verify) and there was plenty of other baubles you could'a took, right swabbie?" Larry Becker's Casino Royale
A sealed envelope is handed out for safekeeping. A volunteer is randomly selected to take an imaginary trip to gambling casino. The performer displays a large clear goblet filled with colorful gaming chips representing close to 40 of the world's great casinos. A few of the chips are removed and the names of each casino are read aloud. The performer even tosses one of the chips to a member of the audience as a souvenir. The goblet is then handed to the spectator on stage who freely mixes and randomly selects one to determine which casino s/he will visit and is instructed to place the chip in his right hand jacket pocket.
A stack of fifty giant $100 bills is displayed and placed on a skeleton tray. The performer hands the spectator a manila enevelope and holds the tray containing the fifty $100 bills behind his/her back. To determine how much s/he is going to wager, the spectator is invited to cut off as many of the bills as s/he wishes, seal them in the manila enevelope and place it inside his/her jacket pocket.
Finally, the spectator is allowed to play a game of chance by dealing an examined, well mixed pack of playing cards one at time, face down in a pile, until s/he decides to stop. The card at that point is placed aside in full view. The spectator continues dealing cards, but this time, face up, until s/he wishes to stop. The card at that point is placed on top of the face down card and both cards are placed in the spectator's other pocket. In the fairest possible way, the spectator has freely selected which casino s/he will visit, the amount of money s/he is going to wager and played one hand of blackjack.
Now comes one of the most amazing climaxes ever performed. The sealed envelope is opened and the contents read aloud by the performer. The letter states that the spectator will choose to visit Harrah's Hotel and Casino as randomly determined by the casino chip the spectator earlier placed in his pocket. The spectator verifies what is written in the letter and then removes the chip from the pocket. It reads, "Harrah's Hotel & Casino." The performer continues to read the written prediction. It states that the spectator will wager $3,600 on one hand of blackjack. The spectator is asked to remove and open the other sealed envelope from the pocket and count aloud the unknown number of bills s/he earlier placed in the envelope. The spectator counts exactly 36 $100 bills onto the performer's outstretched palm.
Finally, the spectator is asked to finish reading the prediction which states the spectator will win the hand with a score of "20." The spectator is asked to remove the two cards s/he dealt and call aloud their value, they total "20."

Effect The Mentalist invites two chess players on stage. These are not plants, but random people who understand something about chess. He tells the audience that, before the show, he gave a chess book to an audience member. He had them take the book to the lobby, circle a chess piece on any page, and then note the page they circled. They were then instructed to seal the book in an envelope and keep it in their possession. They were further instructed to TELL NOBODY, including the performer, which piece they circled. The performer then calls for the sealed package. The package is then placed on a table in full view of the audience. The table also contains a fully set-up chess set. The Mentalist then asks that the first spectator go over and stand in front of the chess set blocking it from view. He is given an unprepared paper bag and asked to SECRETLY drop any chess piece in the bag. He is cautioned NOT TO LET THE AUDIENCE, or the other spectator on stage, see the piece he chose. He remains standing in front of the chessboard, blocking its view from the audience. The performer then opens the package and has Spectator Two remove the book. The performer does not touch the book once it is removed from the package. There is a note in the package (or stuck to the book) that tells the page number of the circled piece. Spectator Two opens to that page number and shows the audience the circled piece, say, BLACK ROOK. The spectator is then asked to riffle through the book and make sure there are no other marks in the book. No other marks are seen anywhere in the book.
