Lecture Notes by Marc Spelmann
Written
exclusively for his 2 hour lecture in Las Vegas, Marc Spelmann has held
nothing back in this limited edition booklet. With eight previously unpublished
routines and principles from a super easy but highly effect chair test
through to a book test principle that astonished everyone who saw it live
in Vegas. We completely sold out of these at Mindvention after Marc's
2 hour lecture. The lecture booklet is A4 in size, full-color card stock
cover, black and white glossy pages, and fully illustrated throughout.
101108 Lecture Booklet - Marc Spelmann Contents include: Time is of the
Essence Marc Spelmann's very own impromptu watch routine that is logical,
effective for close up and parlor and astonishing. A borrowed watch and
two business cards is all that is required for this routine that Marc
demonstrated again and again in Vegas. Booker Using a similar principle
to Time is of the Essence Marc has developed an impromptu book test that
is logical and extremely direct. No Such Luck Spelmann's handling of the
limited edition 'No Chance Delux Set' an effect left to complete chance
always seems to go the performers was despite the true fairness of the
demonstration. So sure is the performer that they genuinely gamble a large
sum of money on an outcome they cannot possibly control. Perfect Location
Imagine being able to have a person focus on a postcard of a landmark
in a city from around the world, not only do know what landmark but you
repeat the process matching every time. This routine is both direct and
super easy. The principle can be adapted to practically any theme. Marc
tips his use of the principle for his trade show performances. N.A.M.D
The Sequel Marc has finally published his updated version of N.A.M.D.
which was his marked deck from 2004. This deck is easily constructed in
under half an hour and is possible the most easy to read marking system
but also one of the hardest to detect. PVP - Positional Visual Persuasion
Spelmann's brilliant handling of the bank night plot. This is routine
received rave reviews in Las Vegas from some of mentalism's most notable
names. Every step is logical and the routine is quite astonishing. No
thumb tips, no awkward loads, no double envelopes, just 5 envelopes. This
is certainly one of the easiest and cleanest bank nights and the fact
that the spectator removes the contents of each envelope makes it totally
baffling. In Shaxons Shadow Marc Spelmann has created a wonderful principle
that seems so unbelievably fair yet you can predict or divine a word,
in any book, on any page, on any line. IYP Chair Test (In Your Pocket)
Marc developed this beautiful two phase chair routine so that he always
had something that could be performed on the largest stage yet could literally
fit into his pocket. Four spectators each randomly choose a sweet, 3 are
green and 1 is red. Marc successfully locates the person with the red
sweet, without equivoque, double talk or any electrical devices. He then
instructs each person to sit on a chair, all id totally fair but he is
able to influence the person holding the red sweet to sit in the chair
he wants. Theory & Thoughts Marc divulges his current thoughts on mentalism,
what is important, what we claim and how we develop our own personas in
three compelling sections. No Answers, Hurdles and No Show Willie. For
what is contained in these pages many said it was too good to give away.
Please note this is a limited printing. Pages 24 - Saddle Stitched

A Darker Light by Ronald J. Dayton
The
latest book from the fertile mind of Ronald J. Dayton (a.k.a Kotah) is
a collection of dark stories and poems entangled in a web of magic. Some
120 plus pages of material for the Bizarrist. Twisted, and thought provoking
stuff. Dark but real, pages from the tests of life. Tales that will touch
emotions, and possibly a nerve or two. Things which once heard, will not
soon be forgotten. Presentations gathered over the past three years and
all released in one book for the very first time. A Darker Light is sure
to please the dark side of your performers soul. Come, walk this shadow
path, bathed in a darker light. In its glow you will come to know magic
differently. This is the best of Dayton, at Dayton's best! The imagery
of words used as tools of creative inspiration. Here is what James Luce
had to say after reading this book: "I Just wanted to announce my most
joyous experience I had when reading Brother Kotah's new book "A Darker
Light. All I can say is wow! He has created works which will tug on hearts
and intrigue the mind with the vivid imagery of his story telling. Among
my favorites are Amanda's Last Breath, a heart jerker where meaningful
words are manifested from the loss of someone special. Oh What a Tangled
Web... where a spiders web is a metaphor for lies. This ends with a visual
surprise! Money Does Not a Restless Spirit Soothe, Where the spirits of
mistreated workers comeback and avenge an insult the company ensues upon
their families. It is obvious from reading Ronald J. Dayton's creations
that he is a very talented writer and cares deeply about his art. You
can count me amongst his fans. May your inquisitive mind bloom and creations
blossom." This excursion into the world of Bizzarism is a collection of
powerful but simple bizarre effects as well as poems and stories useful
for atmosphere and just plain getting you in the ookie mood. Set to release
in February, this book features over 30 bizarre effects presented in story
form. Not for the novice, this book simply hints at methodology, preferring
instead, as with all good bizarre magick, to focus on the presentation
and mood. Bizarre magick seems to be the final progression for many entertainers.
We grow tired of amusing only ourselves, and seek to add real power and
amazement to what we do. As we venture into the work of magick, with a
K- the real stuff, we often find that our traditional performances shift
as well. We move from one who simply does tricks, into the ranks of one
who entertains, and that dear friends is real magic! A Darker Light will
be printed in soft cover 8.5" X 11" format, and is sure to please the
dark side of your performers soul.

A Magician Among Spirits by Harry Houdini
The Original Manuscript, from the Christopher Collection - In 1924, Houdini's
prized effort, A Magician Among The Spirits, was published. Much to his
dismay, the editors at Harper & Brothers rearranged, rewrote and above
all cut out huge portions of the text. The original typed manuscript for
A Magician Among The Spirits survives in Milbourne Christopher's collection,
unread except by a few people, for nearly half a century. Now Richard
Kaufman and Maurine Christopher have published the original typed manuscript
in facsimile, with handwritten corrections by Houdini and Oscar Teale.
The edition is limited to 1000 copies. This 400 page oversized book is
adorned with the same sepia-toned rare photograph of Houdini that accompanies
the manuscript. Covered in black cloth and housed in a matching slipcase.
This book will be published only one time.

Absolute
Magic by Derren Brown
Finally
available in America! Following the success of Pure Effect , Derren Brown
offers a detailed study of the most difficult task facing any close-up
magician: how to make magic convincing. This is a rich and witty journey
through the thinking of Britain’s foremost current magical performer,
whose television specials have revolutionized mentalism and drawn massive
viewing figures. Absolute Magic offers the profoundest thinking, expressed
in the most memorable and vivid prose, and is a necessary modern classic
for the magician or mentalist striving to make his performances more powerful.
This is a manifesto for performing excellence, not a mere collection of
routines. Those who study it carefully will find much practical information,
not only on close-up magic (Derren’s emotion packed presentation for the
floating ring, for example) and mentalism, but also his unique approach
to theatrical pick-pocketing.Originally privately published by the author,
Absolute Magic was only available directly from Derren via his password
protected web site. Those fortunate few who were able to negotiate the
web site and place their order have cherished their copies. With his performing
career no longer affording him the luxury of filling orders, he has authorized
its publication and the book is now available. “If the author’s previous
book, Pure Effect, was a challenge to the status quo of close-up magic,
then Absolute Magic is an outright call to arms… he wants not only to
alter the way we do our art and work, but he wants to transform the way
we think and feel about it. ...Mr. Brown also possesses considerable experience
with pick-pocketing, a subject he explores in some technical as well as
theatrical depth. There is some pragmatic contents of the book, which
still serves as a vehicle for Mr. Brown’s thoughtful consideration of
artistic issues.” -Jamy Ian Swiss, Genii Magazine March 2000 Here is an
excerpt from the book, cited in the Genii review, as characteristic of
its contents: “Have the courage to think from this starting-point, and
to leave ninety percent of your repertoire behind you. Then go out to
perform fresh and eager to improve even more, and from the moment you
arrive, invent and walk your own prestige Carry it around with you with
the quiet nature of the man confident in his authority. Communicate it
thoroughly and subtly before any magic begins. You are not a juggler,
nor a mere amuser of the middle-classes: you are a magician. The main
task of that wonderful job is to lift people out of themselves. You are
a connection to a wondrous world, and if you forget that and just become
a mingling trickster, then you are undercutting yourself, and denying
yourself the shiver of an unrivalled type of job satisfaction. In keeping
with our model, it is vital that you transport people: that in some sensitive
way you challenge the comfort of the social context. In places where the
posh gather and talk about silly things, you must gradually, softly, sound
a bass note that rumbles. You act with caution, and you pace the mood
of the event (and you don’t cloud that judgment by swigging too much of
the Champagne yourself), but you remember that you are there to create
magic… and you bide your time.” Warning: This is not a book for the casual
reader nor one who is easily offended! 251 pages, cloth bound.

Accuracy
by Andrew Gerard
The
performer places a one dollar bill and a one hundred dollar bill on the
table along with a quarter. The spectator is asked to spin the quarter
on the table while the performer's back is turned. When the quarter comes
to rest the spectator is asked to remember which side is up. The spectator
places the magician's wallet over the quarter so it is completely hidden.
Next the spectator is asked to hide one bill in each hand. All this is
done while the performer's back is turned. The performer turns around
and removes 3 business cards from his pocket. He writes down something
on each one and places one in front of each of the spectator's hands and
one in front of the wallet. From this point the spectator opens his hands,
revealing which bill is in which hand and THEY turn over the business
cards proving both correct! But wait... remember the quarter? The spectator
lifts the wallet revealing the quarter landed heads side up. Again THEY
turn over the business card revealing the words "Heads Side Up." This
is ACCURACY. Key points: No electronics Spectator may keep everything
(if you can afford to give away 101 dollars!) No assistants No one ahead
Nothing added or taken away No peeking Perfect for walk around Bonus:
Andrew Gerard shares his notes on this routine, offers a stage idea, and
a killer repeat.

Act Of Imagination by Enrique Enriquez and Kenton Knepper
"This Material Is So Fantastic - I Bought The Rights To It! Only once
before have I paid to write and publish someone else's ideas. The first
time was some unknown performer at the time named 'Luke Jermay' and the
book was the now-classic '7 Deceptions'. This is only the second time
I bought the rights to the material of someone else. That ought to tell
you a great deal." - Kenton Knepper This is the inside, practical, real
work of "Kentonism" and "Telepathy In Action" taken to new heights and
performed with greater ease and comfort than ever before. If you like
"Kentonism" or "Telepathy In Action", this is a MUST HAVE book. What IS
the Act of Imagination? Do a full hypnosis type act without any hypnosis,
stooges, trick props, or set-up. People may think they have become furniture,
see themselves without pants - any number of wild seemingly "hypnotic
demonstrations" are performed without paid helpers or real hypnosis. This
is the full act just as Enrique Enriquez has performed it around the world,
in theatres, living rooms, art museums and television. You get all the
details of the act Enrique is performing to this day to gather fame and
honor worldwide. Psst! It's EASY. But it will take practice. PLUS Enrique
also tips for the first time his classic blindfold portrait effect with
all the touches and details only he alone can tell. Draw accurate portraits
of unseen people, even if you are not an artist! AND Kenton tips his special
duct tape blindfold designed for Enrique's act as well. Your head is down,
eyes to the floor the entire time, duct tape all over your eyes and nose.
No nose peek, no seeing through the blindfold either. REALLY. Of course
there's a secret - and Kenton finally reveals it here for the first time
here. Many have raved about this gem. We know that once people read this
work, the buzz will be all over the place, just as it was with 7 Deceptions.
This book will change how we do Kentonism, TIA and hypnosis on stage forever.
It isn't easy to impress Kenton, and nearly impossible to get him to buy
the rights to anyone else's work. Learn why Kenton spent a great deal
of time and money to get this material into print. If he believes this
much in the material, you can imagine how thrilled you are going to be!
Enrique Enriquez is a student of Kenton Knepper and has performed the
world over with the material in this book. Now it can be yours Pages 44

Act
Two by Barrie Richardson
When
Barrie Richardson's Theater of the Mind was published in 1999, it drew
immediate acclaim from mentalists and magicians, professional and amateur
alike, and quickly became a bestseller. In it, Richardson, a longtime
professional performer and speaker, exhibited an unerring track record
for fashioning astonishing effects and routines, dressed in powerful and
engaging presentations and supported by ingenious, practical methods.
In Act Two, Barrie Richardson shows that he has lost none of his gentle
thunder. His new book features 54 tricks, ideas and routines, with all
the attributes for which his work has become known and admired. Most include
full presentations that use humanity, humor and an unfaltering sense of
drama, that culminate in feats that are clearly impossible and thoroughly
amazing. Along with some of his most prized routines, Richardson includes
valuable examples taken from his professional repertoire of motivational
talks for public and business audiences. The scenes in Act Two amount
to what might be called a modern "miracle play." Here is a scant sampling
of the action: • Spectators name any card and a position in the deck.
They count down to that position in an isolated pack and find their card
at the precise number they chose. The performer never touches the cards,
there are no forces or switches, and the deck is ungimmicked. • Remarkable
new billet techniques are applied to ordinary business cards and Post-It
notes to create astonishing effects of mind reading. • A deck of cards,
shuffled by two spectators, mysteriously separates into reds and blacks
in their hands, while the performer tells of mysteries experienced on
Mt. Kenya at the equator. • Various feats of superhuman memory and rapid
calculation convince audiences of the performer's extraordinary mental
powers—and their own. • A strange solid form materializes under an ungimmicked
cloth napkin, and then just mysteriously melts away. • The true and complete
method is revealed for the ancient Jar of Rice Suspension, presented to
a tale of training and accomplishment in China. • Ground-breaking methods
are explained for the divining of one or several mentally selected cards.
• Also included are three new deck-switches, done while standing, that
require no sleights or use of pockets; a deck that secretly unshuffles
itself after being mixed by a spectator; and many more mysteries using
coins, bills, magazines, marbles, rope and more. Frequently, sequels fail
to live up to their predecessors. That is not the case here. You won't
want to miss Act Two. A quality hardcover, 382 pages of baffling and practical
material, loaded with full presentations.

Acting For Magicians by Richard Tennace
One
of the main reasons magicians neglect the "acting" part of magic is because
magic is such a demanding discipline to learn. A performing magician wears
many hats. The magician has to learn sleights, misdirection and technical
prowess of the hands. The magician is the choreographer, writer, sound
person, booker and promoter of his show. Learning how to develop a character
often takes a back seat because "there's no time to do everything!" But
taking the time to learn how to develop a real character, or stage persona,
is the most important thing you can do! It is the thing people remember
and it's the thing that will keep getting you booked! Cover's Such Topic's
As: * Playing The Part * Thinking Like Your Character * Dress And Look
Like Your Character * The Base Character * Talking Like Your Character

Alexander - The Man Who Knows by David Charvet and John Pomeroy
If
this story were submitted as a script to a movie studio, it would be laughed
out of Hollywood. “Too far fetched,” they would say. And they would be
right except for one thing… it’s all true. Throughout this book, two very
different stories unfold. First there is the account of Claude Alexander
Conlin, the man who became perhaps the highest paid entertainer in the
field of magic. Starting out as a stage illusionist, Alexander eventually
discarded the large props and relied on his tremendous skills as a showman
to put over an act of mentalism and psychic readings. As the turbaned
Man Who Knows, Alexander earned four million dollars over the course of
a relatively short career during the 1920s. The second story that runs
concurrently with Alexander’s theatrical career includes details on his
seven marriages (sometimes to more than one woman at once), time spent
in local jails and federal prison, his trial for attempting to extort
an oilman millionaire, his failed attempt to out run the authorities in
a high powered speed-boat loaded with bootlegged liquor, and the four
men that he admitted killing. It is not the kind of story in which you
expect to find names like Harry Kellar, Dr. A.M. Wilson, Harry Houdini,
Servais Le Roy, Howard Thurston, Floyd Thayer, Joe Dunninger and Harry
Blackstone but here they are, both friend and foe alike. From the gold
fields of Alaska to séance parlors on the Barbary Coast to the most luxurious
theaters in North America, the story of The Man Who Knows is a story like
no other.

The Amazing Alexander by Justin S. Meitz
Learn
The Million Dollar Bill Switch with The Amazing Alexander! Alex loves
magic. Since he was a little tyke, his grandfather amazed him with card
tricks, magic coloring books, floating fireballs, disappearing bottle-caps,
and magic crystal balls - and now its time for Alex to go to his first
magic show. He is excited! Maybe he will even be chosen to come up on
stage. When he arrives, however, a pair of mysterious eyes seem to be
watching him from back stage and he nervously changes his mind; but fate
steps in and takes him on a magical adventure with twists and turns and
white tigers and gleaming, razor sharp blades designed to cut the victim
in half - not quite what Alex had in mind! This is no ordinary picture
book series. This is an extraordinary adventure that teaches the art and
ethics of magic. Each book includes a wonderful magic trick that the reader
can do! The new trick Alex learns in each book, the reader will also learn.
There are instructions in a secret section of this book, where Alex learns
- and so does the reader - how to magically transform two one-dollar bills
into a million-dollar bill. Adults as well as youth will love this wonderful
book series, illustrated with original art, which combines an exciting
childhood adventure with the joy of learning and performing truly mystifying
magic. Quotes: "The Amazing Alexander is AMAZING! The story reaffirms
the values of family, ethics, art, science and MAGIC!" - Gay Blackstone,
Mrs. Harry Blackstone Jr., President The Academy of Magical Arts at The
Magic Castle and Executive Producer World Magic Awards and Masters of
Illusion: Impossible Magic "This is an amazing story and a great object
lesson!" - Lance Burton, Master Magician "This wonderful book will inspire
a whole new generation of kids to become magicians (and readers)!" - Mac
King, Star of The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrah’s Las Vegas (and
Children’s Literacy Advocate) "Every child should experience the genius
of The Amazing Alexander. This 'speaks' to kids, and adults alike. It's
funny, clever, and truly imaginative. Children will continue to grow into
this book and hopefully read the stories themselves when they get older.
It's a must have for any child's library." - Lee Asher, International
CardStar "What an awesome story for children to read! And those illustrations
are remarkable!" - Jay Noblezada, Professional Magic Instructor "I think
it is a fun book, and one that will fire the imaginations of many young
people. It is brimming with the love of magic." - Whit Haydn, "Six Times
Named by the Magic Castle Performing Magician of the Year" "The Amazing
Alexander reawakens our passion for the art of magic and that precious
sense of wonder we magicians strive to rekindle in our audiences. I will
mail this lovely book to all the youngsters in my life!" - Kevin James,
Comedy Illusionist Who Is Justin Anyway: He performed his first illusion
at the age of 3 and was buried alive at the age of 6 (fortunately for
his parents the sand box was only 3 feet deep). The Mysterious Magical
Meitz was born in a small town of 500 people. It used to be bigger, but
people kept disappearing! Justin Meitz was reading books before he could
stand and writing books before he could walk. They were colorful stories
that drew pictures that never quite stayed in the lines. On an ordinary
day, you might find Justin reading the mysteries of Sherlock Holmes to
his students, and teaching them magic, to open their minds to all kinds
of possibilities – or you might find him locked in a box by his young
apprentices and quite unable to get out. Whether locked up or not Justin
is right now working on his next great trick that The Amazing Alexander
will learn. Are you ready to learn it too? Pages 32 - Full Color, Hardcover

An Enchanted
Evening Revised by Kenton
Knepper
BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND This Kenton classic has been praised by many performers
as one of the important works which helped create their own character
and the way they think about magic and mentalism. Here are some highlights:
Spoon Bending Parties -- A detailed examination which many mentalists
have asked Kenton to share with them alone, or keep to himself. How to
get others to do metal bending in their own hands in a Psi-Party atmosphere.
Bent Cent - This popular piece is still being sold as an individually
marketed item to this day. Learn how to make your own and save money too.
The Linguistically Twisted Kenton Tarot Trick - A popular effect for mentalists
and weerdists. A classic. Flower Psychological Forces as a Readings -
including a seeming personality test. Packet Trick Readings - Is it a
packet trick or a reading? It's a lot of fun, and surprising too. There's
more than meets the eye here. Enchanted Flower Production - Another marketed
effect that is tipped in this manuscript. A no palming, no holder spring
flower production that has fooled many well-versed performers. It’s EASY.
An amazing invention, you can make yourself. As you can see, "Enchanted"
is a wide and eclectic blend of magic, mentalism, essays on enchantment,
psychology, linguistics and loads more in one place. Most of all, this
manuscript has gained acclaim and status due to the other, non-trick material,
it contains. This work will push and challenge you into reconsidering
who and what you are, as well as what you do. Beautiful, poetic, miraculous,
memorable magic and mentalism that is very different. "Enchanted Evening"
has enchanted many of our best performers, and changed how we view ourselves
and our art. As one friend put it, "It’s as eclectic and as interesting
as you Kenton -- it’s pure Kenton, but everyone will benefit from it greatly
whoever they are". We say if you like Kenton, you’ll love this! Over 60

Anatomy Of Keys by Steven Price
A
tour de force, a book-length poem, embracing a wide variety of poetic
and prose forms, to tell the story of Harry Houdini. Steven Price's Houdini
knows better than most the limitations of life, having bent the efforts
of a lifetime to transcending them, and having failed. Ah, but his thinking!
Or rather Steven Price's thinking with and through him. "Make it muscular
and be apparent in it," says Houdini's archivist/advisor, "words are also
escapes." So they are in a book with the sinew of Anatomy of Keys. The
facts of Houdini's life are here - immigration to America, youth, circus
stint, fame, that notorious life-ending punch - but the facts are the
spine of a deep and ardent meditation on what is. In poems of astonishing
technical virtuosity, Steven Price reads Houdini's world and our own in
compellingly original ways. Swivel-and-snick sputter of a turned handle.
Bald knob bare in the palm. The torpid click And calm take of springs
triggered far within. I'd set myself to hear it clear again, That ordinary
hinge and creak and drag Of doors we live with all our days and lose The
wonder of. (from "XLIV.iv") "Steven Price, in his Anatomy of Keys, draws
us into the intricacy of Harry Houdini's character, as the Master himself
entered trunks, chains, a web of knots. In poem after poem, there is the
miraculous surprise of release. These are moving, brilliant poems, a remarkable
debut." - Tim Lilburn Steven Price was born and raised in Colwood, BC.
His work has appeared in Canadian and American literary journals. He is
one of the poets in Breathing Fire 2: Canada's New Poets, edited by Lorna
Crozier and Patrick Lane. Price graduated from the University of Virginia
Writing Program, and currently teaches poetry and writing at the University
of Victoria. Book Dimensions Approximately 5 1/2" x 8 3/4" (14cm x 22cm)

ready for a new approach to card magic! Imagine having a card signed and
inserted into the deck, stopping when the card is sticking out of the
deck 1/8th of an inch, so the spectator can see it (his actual card),
going in. The card is pushed in the rest of the way, then the spectator
is asked to name a number between 1-15. You, without ANY cuts, shuffles
or 'moves' of any kind, legitimately count to the named number and find
the signed card! This, and dozens of other miracles, are taught in this
two volume, 176 page set of books. Volume one contains the updated and
reformatted text. Volume two contains over 1,050 line art illustrations

Animated Miracles by Yigal Mesika
Yigal
Mesika is an incredibly talented young magician from Israel. He has created
many powerful new effects with the loop. He also found it necessary to
improve the quality of the loop and so, for the past seven years,Yigal
searched until he found a better way to manufacture the loop. The product
you see here can be stretched up to 400% of it's original size and is
perfectly suited, in strength and invisibility, for the routines found
in this book.Until now there has been very little information available
on the loop and that kept the subject relatively unknown and rarely used.
The aim of this book is to guide you through the techniques of working
with the loop, as well as to give you some applicable routines for stage,
close-up and mentalism. Most of the effects were created by Yigal Mesika.
The rest of the effects, as indicated, were compiled from the repertories
of working magicians, Yigal's friends. *** 10 Dynamite Routines! *** ·
Animated Fork - A fork is placed on a table and mysteriously moves. ·
Phenomenon Fork - A fork is placed on a hard surface and begins to spin
rapidly as the magician waves his hand above it. It stops and spins in
the other direction. As soon as it stops it can be picked up for examination
by the audience. · Falling - An object is placed on the table in front
of the performer. Passing his hands around it, he makes it fall. · The
Floating Card - The magician, holding a deck of cards, takes one card
with his right fingers and causes it to remain suspended from his thumb.
He slowly removes his hand away and the card remains floating in mid-air.
· Jumping Fork From Glass - The magician performs a little concerto with
a fork on the rim of a wineglass. The fork is then placed into the glass.
The magician conducts the fork, waving his hands over the glass. The fork
begins to slowly climb out of the glass and suddenly jumps out, dramatically
falling down to the table. · Mystery Glasses - A pair of sunglasses is
placed on a table. Mysteriously they stand up on their own and, in some
cases, the frame-arms fold shut. · Self Revealing Card -A card is freely
selected and returned to the deck. The deck is squared and placed on any
surface. The magician waves his hands some distance above the cards and
the deck mysteriously separates. One card pops out of the deck. It is
shown to be the selected card, and all may be handed out to the audience
for immediate examination. · Matchical Magnetism - A match held by a spectator
visibly jumps to join another match in the magicians hand. · A Touching
Trick - The magician causes someone to feel he has been touched without
any apparent contact. While the eyes of the audience are on him, and while
his own eyes are closed, a spectator feels that his hand has been touched.
The audience can plainly see that the magician did not touch the spectator.
· The Floating Ring - The magician borrows a ring and displays it on his
finger. The ring is suspended from his finger. The finger is moved away
and the ring remains floating in the air totally unsupported. The magician
plucks it from the air and hands it immediately back to it's owner! ·

Annemann
For The 90's by Mark Strivings
Without a
doubt Theodore Annemann has had a huge effect on the state of mentalims
in the 20th Century. Indeed, his works were the first to have an effect
on Mark Strivings' own approach to mentalism. Over the years, like many
others in the field, Mark has adapted effects for his own use. To fit
his venues and his style of performing. This book, Mark's first for the
fraternity, represents some of the results of years of experimentation
and perfromance. This is all Anneman material that has been re-worked
for todays performer. This material reflects the many changes in the world
since Annemann's day. Let's face it, does a minature change bag "fit"
into the modern world, especially when it is used in mentalism? Most likely
not. These routines and handlings that fit into todays performing conditions
and with todays audiences. Included are "Seven keys...etc...etc...etc..",
Mark's complete rehandling of "Seven Keyst to Baldpate"; "What's
A Mirror Got To Do With It?", an update on the classic "As In
A Mirror Darkly"; "It's A Small Difference, But...", an
update on Annemann's "One-Man Genuine Magazine Test"; "Three

Annotated Erdnase by Darwin Ortiz
The
top card men in the world disagree on many things. One thing they all
agree on is that no other book in the history of card manipulation deserves
careful study more than The Expert at the Card Table. After nearly one
hundred years, it is still considered the foundation upon which modern
card magic is based. It contains some of the most perfectly constructed
sleights in all of card magic. Even more important are the profound lessons
in the real secrets of magic: naturalness, attention to detail, uniformity
of action and the psychology of deception. For nearly a century, the methods
of S.W. Erdnase have been studied, practiced and written about by countless
card experts. One person who spent a lifetime studying every detail of
this landmark book is Darwin Ortiz. The copious notes he kept while meticulously
dissecting each move and every sentence of The Expert form the basis for
The Annotated Erdnase. Darwin's 273 annotations shed new light on the
history of the various moves and effects, provide technical insight into
their proper execution, give cross references for further reading and
include hundreds of obscure bits of information.

unavailable, Lewis Ganson's The Magic of Slydini is, perhaps, one of the
most influential magic books ever. Many of its routines have now become

Coins Through The Table, Slydini's Knotted Silks, The Paper Balls in the
Hat and others. In this brand new edition, Slydini has some additional
things to say about his creations. Some time ago, Dr. Gene Matsuura went
through the text of Ganson's book with Tony Slydini and took careful notes
as Slydini made valuable additions and observations. The Annotated Magic
of Slydini presents every word of Lewis Ganson's original text, printed
in black, along with Slydini's additions and corrections, printed in blue,
making this an invaluable and essential work even for those who own the

through Four of Hearts turning over in order. At the conclusion, the spectator

but it turns into a previously selected card. From The Antinomy Vault,
it's the second edition of "The Gaffed Card Corner." This time it's a

would just ruin it for you. It's a multi-phase routine that educates your
spectator about the latest version of Monte to hit the streets. It manages
to fool them along the way. Brandon Burton shows off "Angled Aces." An
eye-popping production of Four Aces from the Buck Twins School of Magic.

fooled me, surprised me, made me laugh, and made me wonder. Most of all,
he made me wonder where all these great ideas come from. Now every magician
will know. They come from this book." - Jim Steinmeyer "Brilliance in
action, David gives you his real world - real work." - Jeff McBride "I

David has the insightful understandings of magical theories that I have
heard Professor Dai Vernon preach on for years. He understands what makes

Arcadia by Roger Crosthwaite
Mr. Roger Crosthwaite belongs to the no-flourish school, of card magic.
His special enthusiasm is reserved for sleights that are executed under
cover of a natural handling of the deck. He believes, with LePaul, that
simplicity is the keynote of good card magic. Some card tricks baffle
by their complexity. Others, and some of these you will find in Arcadia,
create wonder by their simplicity! "Just finished reading Roger Crosthwaithe's
new book, Arcadia. It's the kind of book cardmen love to read - lots of
details, the kind of details that take a good trick and make it into a
great one. I thought Roger's Upjog Switch to be an extremely strong utility
item that will have many applications. This one move alone would be worth
the price of this book" - Allan Ackerman "After reading Rodger's Arcadia,
my natural inclination was to reach for my deck or cards and start practicing.
I think that anyone in any way interested in card magic will want to do
the same. This book eptimoises the spirit that has pushed the frontiers
of quality magic to great heights during my lifetime; it contains some
of the very best in card magic today. I give Arcadia my highest and most
enthusiastic recommendation!" - Jack Avis

Around the World by H.J. Burlingame
Newly
typeset edition of one of the scarcest Burlingame titles. Originally published
in 1891, it is really three books in one, the first being the reminiscences
of Baron Hartwig Seeman (shown in the frontispiece image shown here),
a 19th century Swedish-born magician who died in Kosse, Texas in 1886.
Anecdotes include his performance of a remarkable bullet catch in Egypt,
adventures touring with violinist Ole Bull (including an account of Ole
Bull's encounter with Herr Alexander in New Orleans), the story of Martin
Luther's wedding ring (owned by Seeman). etc. The second is the story
of William D'Alvini, British juggler and magician who was billed as Japanese
and toured to rave reviews as a supporting act with with Alexander and
Kellar. The third is a reprint of psychologist Max Dessoir's monograph
on the psychology of conjuring (with added references by Burlingame to
mediums). Finally, there is a brief chapter on the original Bellachini
(1828-1885), court magician to Kaiser Wilhelm the first. Barrie Richardson
has added a new introduction pointing out some highlights of the book.
Included are reproductions of Seeman and D'Alvini promotional materials
and programs. Limited to just 300 copies, this reprint is very reasonably
priced and will be welcomed by those with an interest in magic history.

Art and Ardor at the Card Table by Jimmy Nuzzo and Edward Marlo
Jimmy
Nuzzo and Edward Marlo Collaborated on card magic that is visual and confounding
because of sophisticated sleight of hand. It is these secrets that have
formulated some of the most fooling magic ever created. “Any pulse-checking,
hard-core cardmen in the late 60s, knew about Jimmy Nuzzo. If they didn’t
get to see him in person, they were familiar with the select ideas he
published—ideas that probably seemed celestial at the time but were nevertheless
interesting and enticing.” - from Jon Racherbaumer’s Prologue In the Nuzzo
Touch there is Jimmy’s audience-tested repertoire. It includes his fabulous
Side Steal and lightning-fast Card to the Pocket. The book incorporates
three hard-to-find, private manuscripts that Nuzzo and Marlo published
in the 1980’s, Plus Package; Unforgettable Wild Card; and 21 st Century
Card Magic. Jimmy invented the Hung Card, one of the most tightly held
secrets in magic.

The
Art of Deception by Chuck Romano
THE
ART OF DECEPTION chronicles the long and colorful relationship between
conjuring and art. For the first time, the history of artist and the magic
art they have created are profiled in detail. The magician and artist
are similar in many ways. As is true of painting or drawing, magic is
a visual form of expression. Seizing an inanimate substance such as paint
or ink, and using a brush or pen as a magic wand, artists create worlds
of fantasy on canvas and paper. magicians and artists alike strive to
evoke wonder in the hearts and minds of their audience... In this remarkable
book, award-winning author Chuck Romano, explores the rich tapestry of
magic art and the men and women who have created it. Early examples of
magic art from Bosch and Bruegel, to Daumier and Cham, are discussed.
A detailed look at the lithographic process, the companies that produced
magic lithos and the performers immortalized by them are featured. Romano
also highlights contemporary collectors of conjuring and their preservation
of magic art for generations to come. This revised and updated second
edition also looks at other subjects, such as major artists of the past
and present, illustrators of magic catalogs and magazines, conjuring's
connection to comic books, artists who magic art is primarily fine art
(painting or sculpture), and much more are included in this copiously
illustrated volume. Praise for Chuck Romano's THE ART OF DECEPTION...
"This book is a class act. Get yours immediately or hate yourself forever."
- Michael Close, MAGIC Magazine Review "Reading this book was a thrilling
and entertaining experience." -Jamy Ian Swiss, GENII Magazine Review "The

has taken more than twenty years, but Bob Cassidy, a founding member of

successor to The Art of Mentalism! When the latter was first published
in 1983, it was immediately recognized as a classic in the field and is
on the "top ten" lists of many leading mentalists. We predict that this
volume will eclipse the acclaim as the first. The first half of the book,

Art of Modern Conjuring by Professor Henri Garenne
Cards,
coins, rings, and even the human predilection for wonder may all be expertly
manipulated with the help of this guide to favorite tricks and illusions
of the magician's art. Professor Henri Garenne, the urbane author of this
manual on conjuring, intended it as a "guide for amateurs and young beginners."
Starting with the basics of palming objects and using props, and progressing
through more than 200 tricks, this distinctive volume is a rich resource
for the new magician or the armchair prestidigitator. The lessons involve
cards, coins, rings, balls and handkerchiefs. They explain mesmerizing
tricks like the Flying Glass of Water and To Produce Eggs from a Person's
Mouth. Even more astounding are the Indian Basket trick, The Living Head
in a Bottle, and - for a truly stupendous effect - A Lady Suspended in
the Air Without Any Visible Support! And those looking for instruction
in ventriloquism and thought reading will not be disappointed. The secrets
are here. Elegant vintage engravings demonstrate the tricks and add to
the charm of Professor Garenne's delightful treatise.

new and different. In fact, Rogers, Pete Biro, Herb Zarrow, and others
that attended the convention in Holland were instrumental in "spreading
the word." This manuscript will hopefully be instrumental in the "wording

Asher, Lee - Close Cover Before Striking
Lee's latest lecture notes contain six wonderful effects and utility sleights
for the close-up card worker. Includes: * Wipe Your Ace - The magician
shuffles the deck and tries to find all four of the aces. He succeeds
in finding three of them but misses the fourth. He corrects the mistake
by rubbing the deck against the wrong card and it visibly changes into
the final ace! * Face Down Silver Surfer - A card is shown, signed and
turned face-down on top of the deck. The deck is spread and the selection
slowly slides down the spread from the top of the deck into the middle.
With a snap of the fingers, the signed card is shown to have magically
jumped back to the top. * Put Your Treys In The Upright Position - The
four Threes are rotated out of the deck and remain standing on the table
without any visible means of support! * Rosie Palm - An amazing way to
palm a card from the center of the deck. * Resistance Is Feudal - After
producing the four aces, the magician states that he would have rather
produced the four jacks and proceeds to visually change all four aces
into the four jacks at the same time! * That's A Wrap - A borrowed $ 100
bill is wrapped around a deck of cards. In an instant, the bill vanishes
and reappears wrapped around the four aces (or selected cards) in the
middle of the pack.

Assumption
Swindle by Jack Tillar
"This
is precisely the type of material that every working mentalist is searching
for. It is powerful, flexible and proven. It would be difficult to think
of a demonstration that packed flatter or played bigger. Using Jack's
Assumption Swindle, you will be able to convince every member of your
audience that you can read their mind AND win the lottery!" -- Michael
Weber Jack Kent Tillar, the creator of the classic Blister effect, now
presents an incredible new concept that every working mentalist will find
uses for in their repertoire. The Assumption Swindle is one of the most
ingenious and versatile principles in mentalism. It requires no stooges,
no peeks, no electronics, and no gimmicks. It enables the performer to
create unforgettable miracles. Here are just a few examples: Six participants
freely choose a lottery number and each writes it down on a slip of paper.
A seventh participant holds the slips and serves as a judge. The performer
proceeds to reveal each number that was written down and the judge verifies
that each number called out is among the slips! The audience secretly
writes down three unusual actions for the performer to do on stage. Using
muscle reading while blindfolded, the performer is able to accomplish
these tests! The performer is able to reveal the total of all the serial
numbers of several bills held by audience members! Part 1 of this book
explains this effect and explores a variety of other effects using this
principle as it can be applied to playing cards, serial numbers on bills,
coupons, drawings, words, places, trading cards, and many, many other
items that are limited only by one's imagination. Part 2 explores ways
to accomplish an essential technique in mentalism. Part 3 will inspire
and teach you to create mental and magical originalities that will fit
your audience, your abilities and your own particular personality! "I'm
really enjoying your material and am savoring every word! The material
is great." -- Michael Weber Pages 122 - Softbound

Astor's Sealed Miracle No. 1 Antigravitron
Effect
The magician hands a large metal ring (of approx. 18"/ 45cm in diameter)
to the audience for inspection. His hands are empty. A spectator puts
an object of his choice on the table. Holding the ring with both hands,
the performer moves it over the object (Fig.1), and then lifts the ring.
As the ring is lifted, the object is lifted along with it, floating in
the centre of the ring (Fig.2). The magician can turn the ring in any
direction he wishes; holding it by his mere fingertips, he can even turn
the ring around the object (Fig.3) - the object is floating freely in
the air. The performer explains that the ring is made of a special material
capable of neutralizing gravity inside the ring, so that any object in
the centre of the ring will float freely in the air. He then takes the
ring back to the table, slowly lowering it along with the object and putting
both on the table. The spectators may inspect all the objects. But that's
not all. The magician can immediately repeat the effect with any object
at all (that doesn't weigh more than 2 lbs/ 1kg). He doesn't have to pick
up or palm anything, he doesn't have to touch his body (no, there are
no strings stretched across the room either!) or make any new preparations!
A member of the audience simply puts any object on the table (a handkerchief,
a banknote, a lighter, a pack of cigarettes, a candlestick with a burning
candle, a burning petroleum lamp, anything). The magician takes the ring,
moves it over the chosen object - and, just like before, it floats in
the middle of the ring! "Catalogue talk!" you might say, "That's just
impossible!" "On the contrary", we say, "Of course it's possible. Astor
performed this effect any number of times and totally amazed his audiences
with it. And you might be even more amazed when we tell you: The magician's
hands are always empty! He doesn't pick up any aids, so he doesn't have
to secretly put any away! He can float any object as often as he likes
(and, of course, not only things borrowed from the audience, but also
anything of his own, such as a large ball, a glass, a bottle with liquid
- in other words, anything that isn't very heavy). The ring and the objects
are completely unprepared, and can be examined at any time! No wires,
ring pullers, magnets or that sort of thing! This effect can be performed
before surrounding audiences, at a distance of 7 feet / 2m. No training
required! Can you imagine a better effect? We can't! You can use any larger
ring for this effect and it can be of metal, wood, plastic or just about
anything. Of course an aid is actually used; you can easily make it yourself.
The richly illustrated instructions explain everything clearly, so that
even a beginner can perform this amazing trick. The trick can be immediately
repeated with any object (of no more than approx. 2 lbs/ 1kg in weight).

Astor's Miracle No. 2 Supravision
A
completely inexplicable mental effect. Is it real telepathy? It remains
a mystery. Effect The medium (who could be your partner) is blindfolded
by members of the audience in the following manner: First, two cotton-wool
balls are put over his or her eyes and taped crosswise with sticking plaster.
Then the eyes are further firmly blindfolded with a piece of cloth, and
a second, large cloth is placed over the head. It is not a trick blindfold!
The medium really can't see anything! After this is done, two members
(any!) of the audience lead the medium out of the hall and make sure that
he or she is completely unaware of the goings-on in the hall. You now
hand somebody in the audience a simple wooden box and six silk scarves
of different colors and tell him or her to choose a scarf, put it into
the box, padlock the box and put the other scarves into his/her pocket.
You now take a seat in the auditorium and sit motionless. You may also
be led out of the hall, so as to avoid any contact with the medium at
all. Brought back into the hall, the medium takes the box in his or her
hand and immediately tells which scarf is locked in it! Instead of silk
scarves, it may be any objects at all, such as playing cards, dice of
different colors, different coins borrowed from audience members, etc.!
Also, the number of objects is not limited to six, but can even be higher.

Miracle
Paper Tear (Sealed Miracle No.3) by Astor
The
trick in which a sheet of newspaper is torn to pieces and then made whole
again, when performed well, has always had a great impact on the audience.
That's no surprise, for how better could one convince his public of his
magical powers than by VISIBLY restoring a sheet of paper which has been
ripped to shreds? Psychologically, it is not easy to explain: With a rope-cutting
trick, for example, which is a totally different type of restoration,
it is easier to assume that the magician has secretly taken something
away, hidden (palmed) or switched something, than it is to assume the
same for something as big as a sheet of paper. And yet, subconsciously
the viewer still thinks there is some kind of switch. There is only one
way to rule out this possibility: The newspaper must be borrowed from
someone and it must also be marked by someone. When a borrowed and marked
piece of paper is torn up and restored, that's really a miracle. Unfortunately,
there was never anything like that before! And it was exactly this fact
which stimulated Astor to find a solution for this particularly difficult
problem. It couldn't be just ANY solution, but one which even a stressed
professional magician could do in his normal routine without any difficulties
or complications. That's how this magic trick came into being, which puts
all the other newspaper-tearing tricks in the shade, and with good reason!
Effect The magician asks the audience if anyone happens to have a current
newspaper with him. As soon as a viewer responds, the magician goes to
him and takes a sheet of the newspaper from him. He holds the sheet for
all to see and then goes to a second person, who marks the newspaper with
a pencil. As soon as this is done the magician tears the paper in half,
right before the eyes of the audience! (The marked newspaper is really
torn in half, it has not been switched!) Holding up the two pieces of
paper, the magician returns to the stage (podium, or whatever) and puts
the two halves together to tear them through the middle again. He repeats
this again and again, until there is nothing left but little pieces of
paper. (And here, please note that the original marked newspaper has actually
been torn up!) When he is done he shows the audience the shreds of paper,
and then, without touching anything else (!) or carrying out any other
manipulation, the magician begins to unfold the torn pieces! He walks
back to the audience as he slowly continues to unfold the paper, and when
he has reached the audience member who gave him the newspaper it is completely
unfolded! It is completely restored, not a piece is missing, and the mark
is still there! The marked (!) sheet of newspaper, which was torn up right
before the eyes of the audience, is unharmed and whole once again! The
magician returns the newspaper to the person in the audience, thanks him
with a bow and goes back to the stage, walking slowly, accompanied by
seemingly never-ending applause! Need more information? How about this:
No sleight of hand ! No difficult practicing! A purely professional method!
Aids? Yes, a small one which you can prepare yourself in just a few minutes.
What else do you need? Some impudence, just a little bit of cheek, that's
all Comes complete with 22, full-color page booklet explaining the trick
in great detail.

these successfully for several years and always has a waiting list of
people wanting to attend one. Richard does these in a room and rents a

magic magazine considers these to be "exploitative and undesireable,"
so you are hereby warned! However, many people have attended several of
these and would not come back if they were not happy. They are obviously

Aunt Mary's Terrible Secret A Professional Card Routine in Three Acts,
created by David Williamson!
Every family has their secrets. The Williamson family has Aunt Mary. A
respectable woman with a murky past, Aunt Mary has finally come clean.
Revealed here for the first time as a professional card routine in three
powerful acts, Aunt Mary's Terrible Secret is well within the reach of
any performer. Two audience members are invited to play a simple color
matching game for the chance to win fifty-two dollars. The cards are unprepared,
the money is real and this incredible, easy-to-master routine builds to
a devastating climax that will leave your audiences stunned. After Aunt
Mary's Terrible Secret, you'll never look at little old ladies the same
way again. Here's what the experts are saying... "Aunt Mary's Terrible
Secret is too good to share. I have used this routine in paid performances
for many years. I am as sorry to have to share it with the fraternity
as I have been sorry to have to share it with the originator himself.
Perhaps by buying this book, I will obtain retroactive permission for
my past performances." Michael Weber "Quite simply, this is a highly commercial
routine. It combines money, gambling, audience participation, and uncanny
control over the cards to produce a routine that audiences love and remember."
Darwin Ortiz "David has given the serious performer a truly masterful
three-act professional performance piece that will leave his unwitting
participants completely entertained and at a total loss as to any explanation."
Roger Klause Please note: This is a 44 page manuscript professionally

Automata by R. Shane
Automata
is a collection of effects based on self working magic. WAIT - I know
what you’re thinking... Counting and math, OH NO!!! No Indeed!!! Yes,
the principles behind most of these are based on tried and true mathematical
principles which, in their original form, are not particularly performable,
but take a look at what R. Shane has done with them! The subtitle of this
book is Self-Working Miracles With A Sense of Humanity! That says it all.
Here are simple methodologies enshrouded in awesome presentations that
make the "tricks" into magic theater that entertains, amazes and inspires.
R. Shane begins each effect with a treatise on the original method and
effect and then explores variations on the theme. R. Shane is also a master
at finding a hole and plugging it up. He finds the "flaw" in a method
that prevents it from being a masterpiece, and finds a way to seal that
hole so the mystery won't escape. In this book, you will find complete
performable routines and literally DOZENS of variations on each one. This
is NOT ONLY a book of effects ready to perform, but an exploration in
creativity and adaptation. Automata takes the effort out of the method
and allows you to focus everything on presentation! Pages 140
