A spectator is asked to examine ten figure wound cards, confirming each is different with wounds in different places, the cards are mixed and one selected at random. The remaining cards are hidden from the performers view. The spectator is asked to visualize the performer with the wounds on their chosen card. A pay envelope and a needle are handed to a second spectator who is asked to first confirm there is something inside the envelope and then to pierce a single random hole through the item inside. The performer displays a stack of business cards which each have a magical logo and the phrase "For Astonishment..." on them. The spectator initials the top card of the stack and a playing card is also selected, but not yet revealed. The performer flips through the stack of cards and the printed letters move slowly at first, then begin careening all over the card, bouncing off the edges and each other. As the letters slow down, they are seen to be forming into new words in an "anagramic" way. When they are finished moving, they read "Nine Of Hearts!" The magician has misplaced the phone number of his old highschool girlfriend. He asks a spectator to help him locate her number by using their psychic abilities. He gives them a phone directory of the town she lives in. The spectator is FREE to choose ANY page and stop on ANY phone number and then write it down. The magician then shows the spectator a photo of his old girlfriend that has been sitting on his stand in a manila envelope the whole time. Antoninus Pius's Box
The legend tells that in the year 141 A.D. Antoninus Pius, The Roman Empire Emperor, had to go on a journey due to problems with the borders, while his beloved had to remain in the city. It is said that during that time, the Emperor communicated with his beloved in a very special and unique way: both had decided that, on a certain time of the day, she would write a message in the sand and Antoninus would randomly take some stones with different words engraved on them. He would turn the stones around and the message that appeared was the same as the one written on the sand (by his beloved). The following day Antoninus was the one who would write on the sand, and his beloved would choose the stones. In that way, at the end of that long journey, they were able to feel closer than ever before. After telling the legend, the magician shows his audience six engraved wooden pieces which he will lay face down on a table. He also shows them a beautiful box with sand inside of it. The magician explains that, in the way of Antoninus, he has drawn a picture on the sand inside the box, which is now hermetically sealed, and he asks someone from the audience to hold the box in their hands and choose one of the six wooden pieces. Ash Felt
EFFECT: You talk about the power of flames and how images can sometimes materialize from the ashes, how the images can become real, very strong and powerful. Is it our minds? Catch-A-Sketch
EFFECT: The performer announces that he'd like to try an experiment, and invites a volunteer to the stage to help him. He asks her to think of a simple object. Once the picture is clear in her mind, she is asked to try to draw the object using an Etch-a-Sketch. To make it more of a challenge (and funnier), she is asked to draw it while holding it upside down. While she is doing this, the performer attempts to draw what she is thinking on a sketch pad. When she is done, the volunteer turns over her drawing to show just a random pattern of lines. She didn't do such a good job at trying to draw the object. (No one could under these conditions!) Chinese Prayer Vase
It defies gravity! The magician shows a red vase and a piece of unprepared rope to his spectators. The vase is seen to be empty. Inserting the rope into the vase, the magician confesses that a genii lives inside of the vase. To prove his point, he turns the vase (with the rope still inside) upside down.
